Resting before Gearing up to Go!

Hello everyone!

It’s been a slow two weeks since I got out of homestays. Thank the Lord. It’s been a time of getting back into the groove of things and enjoying the close community of girls that I’ve been given at the base. I’ve finished my two half-semester classes (early, even!) and have been able to enjoy the time off before the upcoming craziness of starting classes again and having our first team! As well as a 5-day trip to Indiana for a friend’s wedding!!! I’m so excited!

One of the highlights of the past two weeks was being able to do training for when we have short-term teams arrive. Last year, we didn’t have much responsibility when it came to teams because as a GB 1 student, they didn’t want things to be too overwhelming. But this year we are able to take a greater part in hosting teams, whether that’s doing announcements, helping lead groups around town for shopping, or taking them on excursions! Adding this to what I’m doing here will open up an entirely new field of ministry, as it is our job to pour into the teams that come. There will be 2 people at my site this upcoming week. Prayers for the teams travels and that God would work in them and through them while they are here is always appreciated!

Work at the public school has continued, and I’m very hopeful as the students there continue to progress through the alphabet and writing skills. I’ve also begun to feel more at home in my role here at the site. Carolina has been so encouraging and gracious enough to hand me the reins more than once and has allowed me to teach class! It’s been a bit bumpy here and there because the one thing they don’t tell you about teaching class is that it’s more than just conveying knowledge. You also have to make sure eleven 6-year-olds are all paying attention. And that’s something that will only happen by the grace of God. Another exciting announcement is that we're getting work on the library done! (Pictures below.)

To finish off this short post, our most recent excursion was a baseball game! We watched the Aguilas and the Gigantes (Eagles vs. Giants). We were rooting for the Aguilas. That was not a good plan… we lost, 6-0. Highlights of the game, despite our team losing, involved having the hype band (5 guys with various drums and horns) sit two rows behind us and give us all temporary hearing loss. I also got to eat Subway, which is something I didn’t know I was missing until I had it. Don’t get me wrong, I love Dominican food. I would also pay a lot of money to have Culver’s right now.

Also with us was one of SI’s baseball site leaders, who came to help us buy tickets. It was almost immediately after we got out of the car-- he was swarmed by guys reselling tickets, who badgered him until he bought tickets at the booth. He even told them to come to bother us about buying tickets… but… you know, I’m an americana! Sometimes I forget all the Spanish I know, and that’s just what happens. So, so thankful that the baseball site leader was there to help us out because I don’t know what we would have done if he hadn’t been there. He took it like a champ.

Prayers for my travels during my upcoming trip to Indiana, as well as for the team that’s arriving are much appreciated. Thanks for following along, and I’ll talk to you all in two weeks!

Dios te bendiga!
